The problem
A leading e-commerce player in South Asia faced rising friction at its collection hubs: long queues, operational delays, and overwhelmed staff.
The existing returns process required manual handling, lacked real-time visibility, and frustrated customers.
They needed a custom return system that was secure, simple, and scalable, one that could cut friction for customers and reduce costs for the business.

Our goal
Design and prototype a fully functional smart locker system that could streamline returns, reduce staff workload, and fit seamlessly into their logistics network.
The design approach
We built KeepBox from the ground up, engineered as a modular, tech-enabled parcel locker system.
Key design principles:
- Compact footprint for small hub locations
- Intuitive user flow for self-service returns
- Secure compartments controlled by cloud-connected hardware
- Simple maintenance and backend integration
What we built
The MVP featured:
-
-
- 12 smart compartments with custom lock mechanisms
- Central control module for secure access and system maintenance
- App-based access using 6-digit codes or barcodes
- Cloud-connected logic powered by a Raspberry Pi 4 + NodeMCU
- IR camera and sensors for object detection and real-time locker status
- Built over 3 months, moving from discovery and design to a fully functional MVP.
-
Built using rapid prototyping tools:
-
-
- Fusion 360 CAD
- 3D printing, CNC machining, and laser cutting
- AWS IoT integration for cloud backend
- Custom app mockup for customer and admin use
-

Outcome
The KeepBox prototype laid the foundation for smart logistics innovation in South Asia.
